Association of stroke world (World Stroke Organization) initiated the  world stroke day with messages every day “stroke can be prevented, and stroke can be treated.” Prevention of stroke starts with the understanding of stroke risk factors, and provide treatment to various risk factors adequately. Handling stroke begins with recognizing early symptoms of stroke, giving the right diagnosis, and provide appropriate treatment as early as possible.

Various studies show that prevention is better than treating a stroke. Prevention of post-stroke in a healthy person / no history of stroke is called primary prevention. Prevention of repeated attacks in people who have been affected by stroke is called secondary prevention. Prevention of hypertension, poor diet, and smoking is better and cheaper than all modern for stroke therapy (thrombolytic therapy or vitamins most sophisticated nerve) (Litt, 2007).

Balanced nutrition

Maintain a balanced nutrition. Excess fat consumption increases the risk of hypercholesterolemia. Consumption of vegetables and fruit. Fruits and vegetables found to contain many anti-oxidants and vitamins. Some previous research proving the benefits of anti-oxidants and fiber consumption improve blood lipid profiles, lowering blood pressure and preventing cardiovascular complications.

Cigarette Away

Smoking is consistently associated with increased heart disease, hypertension, stroke, and dementia. It not only  attacking people who smoke, but also passive smokers. Research Lantz, et al (2008) showed that smoking reduces blood flow to the brain. This is more observed in individuals who have hypertension.

Avoid stress

Stress increase blood pressure, lowered immunity, inhibit the regeneration of tissue, and lower insulin sensitivity (resulting in diabetes mellitus). Some studies confirm the increased risk of hypertension and stroke in populations  with severe psychosocial problems.

Watch your blood pressure

Various studies have consistently shown that hypertension is a significant risk factor for stroke. All forms of hypertension associated with increased risk of stroke (Fuentes, et al, 2007). Research Suarez (2007) showed that in patients with stroke, hypertension was found in 74.8% of cases. Hypertension is often also found along with other stroke risk factors (eg diabetes and hypercholesterolemia). The presence of these risk factors will increase the risk of stroke significantly.
Hypertension is often asymptomatic. Patients for treatment when the damage was so severe. Physical activity is shown to improve blood flow, lower bad blood cholesterol levels, weight loss, and decrease the pressure . Aerobic physical activity is proven to reduce the risk of stroke. Exercise is also proven to lower blood pressure 4-9 mmHg. Prevention is an act that is cheaper and useful. Let us prevent a stroke.
